SPONTANEOUS DIRECTIONS 2009

This piece of public performance art happened on the evening of September 4, 2009 downtown in Anchorage, Alaska.

In each situation/event through the evening the four individuals looked in the cardinal direction of their color with Kerry Tasker photographing the event.

Based on the Lakota Sioux symbolism of the Four Winds the colors are as follows:
South – Black or Blue
North – White
East – Yellow
West – Red

Outside they positioned themselves in their direction while riding a bicycle. Inside they pointed in their respective directions (using their chins, lips, eyes, bodies). These happenings spontaneously occured throughout the various First Friday establishments downtown, and were brief and fleeting—as my sense of direction tends to be in general.
