CONTAINERS OF CASUALTY 2011

Anchorage, AK—A total of 22 paintings at the Carr-Gottstein gallery at the Alaska Pacific University in February 2011.

The canvas of these paintings are found shipping forms typically considered waste. Yet they are intriguing sculptures on their own.

The molded paper forms are designed to be discarded almost immediately upon opening a package. Said package could be protecting a stereo, a computer, an ink cartridge, etc. during shipment. The form's beautiful texture and intricate three-dimensionality makes them the perfect canvas for painting.

In order to overcome their status as trash, the forms are also wrapped in an elaborate textile wrapping, woven to fit each piece. The containers were treated as precious objects by the artist and avoided their fate as casualties of consumerism.
